The Role
Really enjoyable experience. Welcoming people, lots of opportunities. Would recommend.
Obviously this varies from person to person. But everyone was more than happy to talk to you about their jobs (as long as they could find time!) and so I felt valued.
Fantastic support from my manager. Many one to ones. Very receptive to what I wanted to gain from the internship, making the programme very tailored to my needs.
Depends upon how involved you get in what people are doing. The ownness was on you find things to do that you wanted. Project work was an interesting change from the day to day work too.
I had sole responsibility for 3 of my own projects. I could also deal with many customer enquiries. Of course, things like opening accounts or more in depth enquiries require qualifications, and so I could not do this on my own.
Fantastic. Developed my ability to communicate with people at varying levels of responsibility in the organisation. A real must for anybody considering a career in banking. This internship has been invaluable.
The Company
People knew when to have fun and when to get on with their work. Very good.
At times HSBC took a while to give you information. For example, the induction weekend information was only received a few days prior to the event.
A lot of time and resources were invested in me. Exposed to a lot of high level skills. Fantastic.
Company Parties/Events
I could definitely imagine myself working here after I graduate!
The Culture
The interns were always arranging social events. I got good friends with the interns in my area, although generally there is only one intern per branch.
Difficult to answer. This is where I live so cost not notably different. Personally, I did not socialise much with my branch, but I know of other interns who have done. It can vary from branch to branch.
It's not glamorous but can be good fun!
There were many opportunities to not just come to work at the same branch every day. We had a day working in a charity shop and are also doing a fundraising event as a whole cohort of interns.
