About You
It was quite good, it was nice to see what an American was like in comparison to British ones, and it was a well stuctured day. However, the day wasn't that different to other open days that I had been to by other law firms
Graduate recruitment were particularly nice- really friendly. The employees there were also friendly and welcoming, and were willing to answer any questions. It was generally a welcoming atmosphere and everyone got along well.
We had a lot of talks and workshops on the next stages after the open day, for example, the process for applying for vacation schemes and training contracts. There was a lot of guidance on what a successful application to Baker and Mckenzie looked like which was very beneficial.
It was only for one day so we didn't learn any new skills, It was more a day to find out about the firm and whether we would like to apply there in the future. We did do a negotiation exercise which was good, but I had already done them at other open days so it wasn't that useful for me.
The Company
It was really well structured, like other open days. We had a talk from a partner, a talk on what to expect from a vacation scheme, a negotiation exercise as I mentioned, an office tour, and a application skills session.
Everyone was friendly and welcoming, particularly the employees. Everyone got along well throughout the day, and even a few contacts were exchanged. Some people even knew each other from university.
Again it was only a one day thing but the application skills session was good to help us know what sort of thing the firm looked for in potential candidates. The negotiation exercise was good, but I would have got more out of it if I hadn't done similar exercises at other open days already.
The workshops were informative in telling us what we should be doing in order to apply for vacation schemes and training contacts. However, this information could equally have been found just by researching the firm's website.
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming. The vacation scheme students and trainees often seemed to emphasise that the biggest reason they chose Baker and McKenzie was because of the friendly people who worked at the firm.
Everything Else
The reimburse expenses- up to 100 pounds
Yes, there was plenty of opportunity throughout the whole day. Many of the lawyers came to meet us at lunch, and we had talks from a partner and other trainees and vacation scheme students.
They were quite good. I think it was most beneficial talking to the vacation scheme students and finding more about how they were successful in the application process and why they chose Baker and McKenzie.
As I mentioned previously, a lot of people seemed to chose to apply to Baker and McKenzie because of the good social life employees appeared to enjoy there. We had a trainee who explained the social activities people got up to.
Yes, it was quite good. However, I would say that if you have been to other open days, it's not that useful going as it is quite similar to others. Most stuff you can find on their website as well. Nevertheless, it is good to put on your CV.
