About You
The day was an excellent opportunity to gain a real insight into the workings of the firm and provided some extremely useful advice and skills sessions.
All the staff were very warm and welcoming from the partners down to the desk staff. Being provided with lunch and travel reimbursement made you feel valued.
It was a very well organised and delivered day, with never any doubt about what we were supposed to be doing or what would be happening throughout the rest of the day.
I can't express how useful the day was. In providing information about applications in general for both vacation schemes and training contracts the day was fantastic. Coupled with the detailed information about the firm, this ensured I have picked up some great skills for the future.
The Company
As I said above: It was a very well organised and delivered day, with never any doubt about what we were supposed to be doing or what would be happening throughout the rest of the day.
Again the day was really good fun. The addition of the negotiation skills session only increased the excitement and kept everyone on their toes and engaged.
The skills sessions gave a great insight into the applications process.
Of course there is only so much you can gather from one day at a law firm, but the Open Day at Baker & McKenzie really gave a good impression of the firm and what it might be like to work at a truly global, big-city law firm.
Again, the day gave a real insight into the culture of the company. Everyone you spoke to gave the same impressions and were on the same page. Baker & McKenzie really does give the impression that it is a friendly firm.
I already had a firm idea of the direction I wished to take, but the Baker & McKenzie First Year Open Day solidified that ambition.
Everything Else
Travel was reimbursed and lunch provided
We had sessions where we met many trainees throughout the day, as well as a talk from a partner. Lunch provided an opportunity to network with partners, associates and more trainees. Of course, graduate recruitment representatives were on hand throughout the entire day and were more than happy to answer any questions or help with any problems. Fantastic opportunity.
As it was only one day, there were no social events (except for the lunch) but the networking was great as mentioned above, with graduate recruitment representatives, trainees, associates and partners around all day.
The session with trainees provided a good opportunity to ask questions in smaller groups of around 5-8. Furthermore, the informal lunch provided an excellent opportunity to speak to employees about everything; legal or not.
Without a doubt. I had never been on a law firm open day before but the Baker & McKenzie first year open day surpassed all my expectations.
