About You
The experience was one that made me look forward to what the next day was going to hold.
I was always kept busy but given work that usual trainees at the firm would be doing. I felt like one of the team and even invited to have a drink after work at the end of the week.
If there was any problems the support available was so friendly that I would have no problem asking for help if I was unsure about anything.
In such a cramped industry any advice is helpful and I was given plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about how to maximise my potential when looking for work.
The Company
I was given a timetable at the beginning of the week that set out exactly it was that I was doing during the week and my supervisor was aware of the timetable.
Everyone who I came across, whether it a senior partner or trainee was friendly and welcoming and were there to guide me through the week at every step.
Whenever I was given work, the context was fully explained and I felt as though I was learning with every day.
I got a real feel for the type of people who work for Mayer Brown and the style of work that they have.
I was given enough opportunities to talk to the trainees and associates and I felt they answered honestly about the style of the firm and how the operate.
I only spent the week in one department so as much as it was helpful in learning about that one area of law, I didn't get much of an insight into other areas.
Everything Else
reasonable travel expenses and a £4 lunch allowance were both paid.
I met a huge number of people and even those who I met at the start of the week remembered me at the end and would happily spend time to have a chat with me.
At the beginning of the week we had a lunch where we could talk to various trainees and associates and at the end of the week I had a couple of drinks in the department I sat in.
Not much information was given about activities outside of work although I did hear about one trainee was involved in a cricket team.
The overall experience was equally insightful as it was enjoyable and the guys I met could not have been more welcoming.
