About You
I enjoyed it very much. It was a very enjoyable day that gave me an invaluable insight into a very influential global law firm. I also learned what Baker & McKenzie looks for in an applicant for a summer placement. It will help me a lot when writing my application.
I felt very welcomed. Everyone we met was very nice and I felt they answered every question we had truthfully, in order to help us understand what being a commercial lawyer working in such an important global firm is really like.
The sessions we attended were very useful, especially the application workshop one. The negotiation was also very useful and it was good practice for future negotiations.
It has given a lot of information and tips that I will certainly use when writing my application for a summer placement. It has also given me an insight into how Baker & McKenzie as a big commercial firm works and what they look for in applicants.
The Company
Although there was a structure to the day, it felt seamless as the sessions were very enjoyable and useful.
Everyone we met at the firm was very helpful and friendly, it made me feel welcomed. The current trainees we met were lovely and answered any questions we had. May was very nice and helpful as well.
The negotiation session was very useful and it gave me confidence for future negotiations I will have to carry out. The feedback they gave us at the end was also very useful as it helped us realize our mistakes and how other groups approached the problem at hand.
I learned a lot in terms of how the firm runs, how there is an "open door" policy and how everyone seems to help each other. I also learnt a lot in terms of the kind of work the firm carries out and how the global nature influences a lot of what the firm does.
We met a lot of current trainees and they explained how everyone was at the firm, how friendly and helpful everyone was, even partners ; and how social events are organized to lift spirits and build friendships. I felt like it would be a very enjoyable place to work in and I believe I would fit in as I got on well with the trainees. I also learnt of the different Pro Bono and sports opportunities available to get involved in.
It has convinced me that I will definitely like to work in an international firm in the future. I believe I am well suited to it by what the trainees and speakers said.
Everything Else
we were reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses which I was very grateful about.
During our lunch time we had the opportunity to meet and talk to a lot of current trainees, associates and even partners. We also got the chance to speak to students currently involved in the summer placement which was very useful indeed.
We had a lot of opportunities to talk to trainees and even partners at lunch and throughout the day.
We were told of the different sports opportunities available to take part in and how social nights are organized for the trainees, associates and partners to get involved in.
It was extremely useful and I have already recommended it to students about to start reading Law at University.
