  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • Really very enjoyable with fun people - I want to go back (and hopefully will!)

    • Very valued to the extent my level of knowledge and experience could allow

    • Not mollycoddled and left room for using my initiative but always there when I needed assistance.

    • Days quite varied and flexible but never too little or too much

    • Within the obvious bounds of safety and insurance I was made to feel quite responsible e.g. taking brand new vehicles out on a road test on my own

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Not skills for my degree so much as skills for the working environment and management in the future

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Not in the office much, more on the factory floor being hands-on. When in the office tasks were topical and felt very worthwhile

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Not always superbly organised but I still got a LOT of varying experience and tours of different areas. The sometimes slight lack of direction felt more like really working there and was then more up to me to think of helpful tasks for me to suggest but I stress this was rare

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Staff get a large training budget every year and even though interns are only there for three months, I was also given this. Used it to learn off road driving in the company's vehicles

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    • Hope to get on the graduate scheme with JLR starting next year! Subject to an interview and presentation soon.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Social scene amongst other interns was excellent especially if you organised to live nearby/with each other (which JLR helped with). Colleagues a little trickier to socialise with due to the long commutes for some and varying age groups across the department.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Not expensive to eat and drink, about average for accommodation although there is a lot of variation - i.e. a rental price to suit most budgets

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

    • Coventry is cheap and a good laugh, literally on the doorstep. After the pay cheque comes in, Birmingham is a little further but worth the extra mileage and cost - superb.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • To an extent, the training funding stretches to around 150 different activities to choose from. Overtime was also available in my department for some driving based projects.
