The Role
A very interesting and diverse job which challenges you with both internal and external customers. Being a supply chain based role pressure was always there to meet deadlines and ensure expections where met or beaten. One of the most important traits for anyone in such a role is accountabilty, approchabilty and drive to win.
I worked with an excellent team within Customer Services all of which came from a range of backgrounds and experince levels, all where more than happy to help with any questions or concerns. Oppurtunties for feedback where both formal and informal, and when you had done something well you where recongised for this and had the oppurtunity to show this to a higher level.
Support and guidance was avaliable to you, however it is as ever down to the indvidual to drive the level of detail and frequency of support and guidance. Further to this point ad-hoc support was avaliable whenever required be it a supervisor, manager or collegue.
Very busy, from the day-to-day tasks to the ones you get once a year, you where always busy, and if you aren't there is always something to do e.g. a task which needs to be completed but doesn't have the priority or a collegue who requires help.
Plenty of responsibilty was given to me throughout my placement for a range of different process and customers, as well as the oppurtunities to take on improvement work and projects.
A placement without doubt is what all university students should strive towards completing there degree. A placement will provide a student with skills for life if they have drive and direction to make a success of it. I have certainly found my time at Cummins rewarding and had several training oppurtunties, this experince will definatly assist me both in my final year of my degree and my search for a graduate job.
The Company
A very nice atmosphere with a light and relaxed mood however a serious outlook on their jobs and the overall objective of the supply chain function.
The work placement has been set up for many years, and clearly the company knew what it was doing in this regard, further to there credit they had recognised some of the weaknesses of previous years and implemented improvements for our years placement, to which on the whole proved successful. My only disappointment was the handover could have been more extensive, however with time the experince of the department and support from team leaders/ mentors this issue was soon rectified.
Plenty of tranining and development oppurtunties where avaliable both with the supply chain fuction and as part of the student devlopment program. The company will happlily invest time and training into a student as long as they are willing and able to drive forward with the training and deliver tangible results.

I will be applying for a gradute role with Cummins as I have enjoed the exprince and the challenges it has provided, and would like to advance throughout the company.
The Culture
Yes amongst the students who had moved away to work at the company, there where plenty of oppurtunties to meet up and experince the night light of the north.
Very cheap cost of living due to the location of the job, and various places which where accesible by both car and public transport a resonable costs from Darlington e.g. Leeds, Newcastle, York.
Darlington is an ok night out, Newcastle/ York/ Leeds which are slightly further afield would provide a better nightlife which are accesible by train.
Lots of social oppurtunties outside of work. From departmental outings, events in the local area, activities organised by collegues at work. There was plently of activities to get involved if the individual was prepared to do so.
