About You
The Scheme was intense but that did not stop it being a great experience. The work was tough, but I enjoyed the responsibility given to me.
Everyone, from canteen staff to senior partners, were friendly and welcoming. The firm has a lovely atmosphere to be around.
I was given a good amount of guidance, but a lot of emphasis was placed on independent work. People were approachable if I needed help but would rarely come to me.
The experience of working in an office will stand me in good stead if I ever get a full-time job working in one. I also feel my presentation skills have been enhanced thanks to the Scheme.
The Company
It was well structured with a range of events and functions for us to attend. The only part of my experience which was not well structured was in my department, as everyone came to give me work, and the person I did most work for was not my supervisor. This was no bad thing, however.
It was extremely good and friendly, and a pleasure to work in.
We were given plenty of IT and knowledge training at the start of the scheme. However, I feel that training for my personal skills was minimal.
Spending three weeks in the firm meant I had long enough to feel part of my team, and I think that by the end I had a good idea of what it would be like to work here full time.
Nabarro's focus on the way their business works was evident throughout my time with the firm, and over three weeks I felt that by the end I was well versed in the company culture.
Everything Else
The pay was extremely generous considering I would have done the same for free.
Networking was a particular highlight of the Scheme. Socials, presentations, and the partner lunch in particular were great opportunities to meet other people in the firm.
They were good fun and had a relaxed atmosphere, but also informative. I never felt under any pressure that I was being observed or marked on what we were doing.
We were told about them in presentations early in the Scheme, but that was never expanded upon, and no opportunities were given to us beyond the pre-organised socials. This is understandable though given the relatively short length of the Scheme.
It was informative and educational without being dry or dull - an extremely hard balance to strike. It gave me a wonderful insight into the firm, and the career in general, which was one of the primary reasons I enjoyed it so much.
