The Role
Working at Mars has been a fun, exciting and challenging way to spend the summer. The variety in day to day jobs has made my time here extremely enjoyable from visiting factories, planning a mini food festival, developing websites and even eating dog food! The variety in my Food Marketing Internship has been completely engaging and I've certainly learnt a lot!
From day one my collegues made me feel comfortable, everyone at Mars is extremely welcoming and friendly.
Through out my time at Mars my line manager has been a great support not only with the day to day projects, I have had the responsibility for, but also ensuring that I personally develop. This has been done through regular informal catch ups and PDP planning.
Through out my time at Mars I have been given a substantial number of objectives to complete.
Once being set objectives it was up to me to decide how I would run them out and make my own mark on the projects I had been given. Everyone was available for questioning if I was ever unsure and the team was always willing to help.
Working in Marketing at Mars has helped me to refine my data analysis skills whether that is with numbers or with consumer insights. This skill will be extremely useful for approaching my final year dissertation to really be able to disect and extract data appropritately.
The Company
The office is a great place to work everyone is approachable no matter what their job role is and the addition of pets in the office is definitely unique!
The internship as a whole has been organised extremely well. As a summer intern I have been provided with an induction a 4 week plan and then slowly been eased to planning out my own workload.
Mars have been great in guiding interns through this summer scheme. All interns have been given challenging projects and PDP's have been composed to ensure that we develop.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
This internship has given a great advantage to observe how Mars as an organisation operate and it gives you the opportunity to try out for a graduate panel!
The Culture
I was lucky enough to be placed at the offices close to Nottingham, where the majority of Interns were placed. Social events we arranged on a weekly basis.
Cost of living was reasonable as expected. Student halls are available to live in if accomadation is needed, many of the interns house shared over the summer though.
Nottingham has a great variety of bars, pubs and clubs. But if that's not your thing there are many great restaurants, cinemas an ice rink and theatre to keep you entertained...plus the great shopping!
Mars have limited outside work activities as a whole business apart from Rounders on a Tuesday night. Many departments do have their own after work socials which are great to!
