The Role
I enjoyed this placement a lot - the variety of work that I got to experience over the 6 weeks I was with the firm meant that I was always doing different things and interacting with many different people.
They treated us not as 'interns' but as fellow colleagues, which meant that right from the start we were given a lot of responsibility.
There is an official feedback system within the firm that they encouraged us to fully partake in, which menat that we got formal feedback (the good points as well as devlopment points). The people who were supervising us were also more than happy to take questions as often as we needed guidance, but they also helped us to learn independently by asking us what we thought the correct thing to do would be without jumping in and answering the questions straight away.
I was rarely left without a task to do, and the internship 'Dragons Den Challenge' was an ongoing project throughout the internship, and there was always stuff to be done for that.
As mentioned before, right from the very start, we were given a lot of responsibility working on real clients.
The skills that I developed during the internship that will benefit me in the future are working with a variety of different people and adapting to different situations. Also I had a lot of exposure to excel which is another skills that I have really improved on during my time with the firm.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly around the office (not that I spent much time at the PwC office!), and the atmospere was hard-working yet not stressful
The firm made sure that all the interns got a wide range of experiences working on different jobs with different clients. We also had training days at the start of the internship and a development day half way through to develop other skills like presentation skills and commercial awareness.
All the interns from across the country were put in a hotel for the first 3 days of the internship for our training and to network with the other interns. They also ensured that we were treated exactly as any other person working within the firm would be treated.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a job at the end of my internship.
The Culture
Everyone in and around the office was very social. However, it was difficult to socialise much and a lot of the time I was working away from the office.
I lived quite far away from the office and commuted in everyday so can't really comment!
I never went out in Cardiff.
Again, I wasn't able to get involved in any other opportunities in such a short space of time and with not spending much time at the office.
