The Role
As a result of not having much work to do during my placement, I believe that some of my time there was wasted. Seeing some of the ongoings within the business did however provide some distraction.
Some colleagues appeared to value my contribution, while others saw giving me tasks as an annoyance.
Manager was away from the office and on holiday for some of my placement, during which time I was left little to no work to do. When raised this as an issue I was told that someone else in the department would have some work for me to do.
Given very few tasks or work to complete. When speaking to manager and colleagues to try and get more to do, I was often told to wait 10mins and while they came up with something, though they rarely did.
Given access to very sensitive information and worked on some company critical tasks, however a lack of access to programmes, departments and vehicles meant I was unable to be given greater responsibilities.
Not much opportunity was provided to develop skills or receive training, though I did make great use of Microsoft Office!
The Company
Some great colleagues but in general the office was quiet for much of the day, with only some end of the day discussions to liven things up.
JLR puts a lot of resources into the recruitment process, however once on site many managers seemed to not realise they would be getting placement students and had little work lined up or available. Though students are asked to fill in their engineering interests when they receive an offer, many interns do not seem to be placed in relevant departments.
None, other than gaining experience from the recruitment process
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Given opportunity to pursue future summer internships with the company and fast tracked application process at the end of internship.
The Culture
Many of the students lived together in halls in central Coventry so there was always something going on.
Depends on where you chose to live/go out - the standards and prices varied considerably.
Good nightlife required trips to Leamington
A bimonthly team meal, but nothing company wide.
