About You
I enjoyed the placement because it gave me a realistic idea of working in a commercial legal firm, expecially as a trainee, and I was able to be a part of high quality work and contribute skills I have developed at Uni.
The team I was placed in was very professional yet very supportive. People within the firm recognized my capabilities and gave constructive feedback. I feel as though the work I contributed would be useful for the firm
I was assigned a buddy, a trainee within the firm, and I also had a more senior supervisor. Therefore I had two people I could turn to with any questions from day 1. Anybody was willing to help me out throughout the placement.
I think I will adapt my style of work to be more organized and structured in my approach to work.
The Company
The placement was extremely well structured with a good balance of gaining broad generalized experience of the overall firm, and more hands-on, day to day, realistic experience.
The atmosphere was professional yet very sociable. So I felt it was a very positive working environment, where I could work hard, but where it was not too intense.
The purpose of the placement was more about gaining experience and assessing my existing skills than personal training and development. However the practice presentations in the mornings (from different departments in the firm) did enhance my legal knowledge, and working on actual projects greatly developed my commercial awareness.
I think the role gave me a very realistice perspective of what it would be like to work as a trainee.
I felt working day to day with and for people within the organization made me appreciate the core values of the firm.
After the placement I feel certain in my commitment to pursue a career in the law. It also allowed me to consider what general type of law I would like to specialize in.
Everything Else
I was paid at the end of the 3 weeks
The firm very much encourage summer students to get to know the trainees. However the teams, and more senior employees, were all very friendly and sociable, and we were also given well structured opportunities to ask questions and have a chat.
There was a social event once a week, which were good fun and a great way to get to know the trainees.
We were given insight into the kinds of things trainees get involved with outside of work mostly. CSR is something that is widely encouraged for employees to get involved with at all levels as well.
I would definitely recommend the firm for anyone wanting to gain a realistic view of a commercial law firm.
