About You
I loved the three weeks I spent at the firm.
I felt very valued. I was given real work to complete and never made to feel like a burden on busy people's time.
Alot! I had a supervisor who I could always turn to, and the department I was in were very quick to help me. We also received a large amount of training, and the people who delivered that made a real effort to make sure I knew what I was supposed to be doing.
I was given a lot of feedback, both from my supervisor and the HR team, so I will be able to improve. I also think the experience of working in a firm of this size will be beneficial in my future career.
The Company
Very well structured. I was given a clear timetable with time set aside for departmental presentations and review sessions. Within the department itself it was not structured, but that is the nature of being a lawyer - each day is different and putting too much structure on the day to day time in my department would not have given me a true reflection of the career.
The firm is so so so friendly. Everyone was approachable - I had long conversations with numerous partners and the whole office has a welcoming feel.
A real effort was made in relation to personal training and development. Half way through I had a review with a member of HR to discuss what I had done so far and on my last day I had feedback sessions with both my supervisor and HR. I was given an honest opinion of my performance and some constructive points which I can now take away and work on.
I felt I was given the work that I would do should I get a job at the firm, and spending three weeks in one department means I really was able to get struck in.
I'd heard a lot about the culture of the firm before I came here, and it everything I'd heard was true! It's not a stuffy law office, but a really friendly open environment. The ethos of the firm is to take a clear, concise no-nonsene approach, and that is reflected in the culture.
Everything Else
£200 per week.
One of the downsides to spending the entire time is just one department is that it's easy to only get to know them. However, we had departmental presenations at which we were able to meet associates from other teams, social events with the current trainees and a sit down lunch with the partners. There was also nothing stopping us going to over departments and introducing ourselves.
I really enjoyed them - a good way to relax after spending all day in the office trying to impress everyone you meet!
My supervisor is quite heavily involved with committees outside of work, and she made an effort to invite me along so that I could see both the work and social/volunteering side of the office.
Without a moments hesitation.
