About You
The placement was really enjoyable! I was given lots of meaningful work during my time with the firm and there was a good work-life balance with a number of social events for us to take part in.
I feel that I was given real tasks that were important and useful to the firm rather than simply photocopying all day. I was given a wide range of tasks to complete that were then used by my superiors to complete their own tasks and fed back to clients.
I had a supervisor and trainee buddy both of which were excellent. They were always there to answer my questions and help me out when I was stuck.
Being able to see the law in practice will be so helpful for my future studies. I've discovered a lot about my strengths and weaknesses and I think that everything I have learnt will be invaluable in the future.
The Company
Everything was structured well so we knew exactly what we were doing each day. We had lots of different presentations and social events to allow us to get a real flavour of the firm.
The placement was really interesting and fun at the same time. Everyone was really friendly and helpful and so easy to get along with.
We were given quite a bit of training not he first day and then throughout the placement people were on hand to help us out if we were stuck. Everyone was enthusiastic and seemed to want to help me out.
Although the placement was only 3 weeks we did have a chance to experience different aspects of the firm and understand how the firm works in reality. It has been a really good insight into how the firm operates and how I would fit into the team. It has really helped me decide what I want to do with my future career.
We were given a good taste of the firm's culture and the way it operates. It was great to be able to see first hand how things worked in the office and how everyone interacted. It has been great to see the culture of the firm and the placement has been helpful in deciding whether I fit in with this culture.
Everything Else
We received a cheque at the end of our placement. Although it was great to be paid for the placement it was not the best thing about it. Getting to see the firm in action was great and would have been worth it even if we weren’t paid.
We were given numerous opportunities to network with other people in the firm. There were a number of social events that allowed us to get to know other team members much better. We also had a partner lunch and dinks evening which allowed us to get to know some of the partners in the firm and those higher up.
The events that were organised for us (cocktail master class, Trainee lunch, partner lunch, pizza and drinks evening) were all excellent. They were planned really well and extremely fun. They gave us the perfect opportunity to wind down and get to know everyone a little better.
There are a number of things the firm does outside of the office, from sports clubs to CSR events and BBQs. Although we weren't there for the office BBQ we were able to take part in other things organised by members of the firm while we were there.
It has been an excellent experience and I would highly recommend going on placement to everyone! It has been great fun, interesting and it has really helped me decide where I see my future career going.
