About You
I enjoyed the insight as it gave a very good insight into the firm. I found the people to be very friendly and the work was interesting.
The people in the department were mostly very welcoming. I was assigned a supervising associate and a trainee buddy, both of whom were very helpful and were good at making time for me.
People were generally happy to answer questions. We were also given a very thorough IT induction and training on how to do legal research.
I think the information I received will assist me in my future career. I learnt a lot about the work carried out by trainees and how lawyers deal with clients.
The Company
The insight was very well strucured. We sat in one department for the entire three weeks which allowed a deeper insight into the work that they did. We also had to complete a Project alongside our department work which involved deadlines throuhout the scheme.
The atmosphere was welcoming. The firm seemed like a genuinely nice place to work and the people clearly got on with each other.
The firm put on a series of breakfast briefings to give us an insight into other departments and the firm's corporate social responsibility practice. We were also given a mini-appraisal and had a mid-scheme meeting with a member of HR.
I was able to observe and find out by asking people what it was like to have a full time role with the firm. While people did work very hard and tend to stay late, I was not expected to do so myself if I had nothing urgent to do.
The vacation scheme was very helpful in helping me uinderstanding the firm's culture. I was able to speak with a range of people, including partners, many of whom were very friendly and approachable.
The insight was quite valuable in confirming that I want to be a solicitor. It was also useful in helping me decide whether I wanted to work at Nabarro.
Everything Else
I was paid at the end of the scheme. The pay was good.
The social events provided a good opportunity to chat to other people in the firm and were well attended by partners, associates and trainees. Everyone was very approachable and happy to speak to the vac schemers.
We had a bowling and kareoke night early on which served as a good icebreaker and was lots of fun. We also had a pub quiz and a partner dinner. We also had a formal networking session which was a good chance to meet other interns from other companies.
We had a short presentation on corporate social responsibility at the firm. However, this only covered fundraising so it would have been nice to hear about the pro bono opportunites as well.
I would recommend this vacation scheme to a friend who was interested in a legal career at a property firm or mid-sized firm. The scheme is very well organised by the Graduate Recruitement team and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to get invovled in whilst in my department.
