About You
The vacation scheme was enjoyable from first to last.
The Graduate Recruitment team were at pains to welcome us, having memorised our names prior to our arrival! The trainees and associates were friendly and willing to answer any questions we had during our three weeks.
There were a number of possible contacts for us to use at all times.
I benefited from the exposure to a commercial law firm. I was inspired by a number of senior individuals and my attention to detail and presentation skills improved in the short time.
The Company
We had a detailed itinerary and were informed by Graduate Recruitment of the various planned events well in advance. This was not restrictive, however, as we were also able to plan a number of ad-hoc social events across the three week period.
We were welcomed into the firm from the off and were able to take advantage of the surrounding Spitalfields Market. The was down the friendly and sociable nature of the firm, the Graduate Recruitment team and the other vacation scheme students.
I was offered online training, IT training and was constantly provided with constructive advice during my time.
The trainees were honest about all aspects of their job. They were at pains to communicate the negative aspects of their role as well as the positives.
Our talk with the Senior Partner set the tone for the three weeks, and gave us a clear insight into the culture and vision of the firm.
The practice area talks broadened our understanding of the A&O practices, whilst our time in our seats provided a realistic example of work at a large international law firm.
Everything Else
When taken out for meals or coffee, all personnel were at pains to ensure that I did not pay for anything, even when I insisted.
Every morning we met individuals from the various practice groups. Even the most senior individuals within the firm were willing to give up time to speak with us.
The socials were well planned, the people were fantastic and there was plenty of scope for additional socials when no formal plans had been made.
We were invited to socialise, take part in pro-bono activities and informed of the various sports and music opportunities within the firm.
I cannot recommend the vacation scheme highly enough.
