The Role
I found the placement extremely interesting, as it gives you the opportunity to look as a huge variety of roles within the bank
My colleagues were all lovely towards me and would help me with anything I needed.
You are given a list of tasks to accomplish every few weeks, and my manager added somethings to keep my busy. There is also a great deal of flexibility to manage your own diary and sit in on the meetings you want to sit in on.
If you are working on the floor, it can get a bit chaotic. However I was never bored, and there is always a meeting you can observe or working on your project.
Although you cannot give out loans or anything like that, there is a great deal of opportunity to help customers on the floor and do some management there. There is also the avaibility to discuss ways of improving the branch and many of my ideas were put into place.
I have learn invaluable lessons. They see personal development as very important, so you focus on certain skills/qualities which you wish to obtain by the end of the placement. My most notable skill which I have improved would be the ability to manage people conscientiously and effectively.
The Company
People were very friendly, and you soon pick up on all the inside jokes. Meetings regularly take place as the local coffee shop, and everyone went out of there way to be friendly towards me.
We had weekly conference calls with our regional supervisor, and timescale for all the activities which we had to accomplish. They only part that wasn't seamless was the initial set up of the IT which took about 2 weeks and was a bit confusing.
As aforementioned we did a personal developement plan, where we wrote out out strong and weak areas. This meant that we could focus on them. The company took us on a lovely weekend induction where we discussed our personal branding. This made me feel very valued.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
We have the opportunity to be offered a further placement next year, and after we graduate we will have the opportunity of joining their graduate programme.
The Culture
There are events organised by the interns every few weeks in your area, which were good fun.
Working in London is of course going to be extremely expensive, oyster cards especially. However there was a territorial allowance in this position.
London does have excellent nightlife for any scene.
There was a charity scheme which was run by the graduate team, we did two events with them which were really fun.
