The Role
Once I settled in I did enjoy the time especially as the staff were so friendly
I have made some real friends that I will keep in contact with; everyone really mucks in together and I was part of that as much as I could be.
Although the management were often extremely busy, they did take the time to make sure I knew what I was doing each week. However I feel like I would have benefitted from more time at the beginning setting out what exactly I wanted to achieve
It was up to me a lot of the time how busy I was which was definitely a learning curve.
Chances for taking responsibility were there; however at the start I did not realise to what extent you had to take these yourself - it would not be handed to you. Also certain tasks can simply not be done unless you have had the proper training so I spent a lot of time simply shadowing
I now know about what banks do which will help me in my personal life if nothing else! But also the experience of being in both an office and dealing with the public has helped me understand what is expected in both situations and has made me feel more confident which I'm sure will help in both future interviews and careers.
The Company
At times tense as there were a lot of changes happening at the time, but at other times very friendly and relaxed.
It was unclear at first what exact dates the internship would be on and certain things took a while to process.
The days at the beginning and end of placement, as well as regular conference calls ensured that we knew what we were doing and what was expected of us. The staff in the branch knew less of this but the central team were very good so made up for it.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
As this is my first year internship there is an opportunity to do another next year which I would love, and then opportunities to get onto the grad scheme.
The Culture
Everyone was really friendly and I socialised with both colleagues and other interns outside of work hours and have made friends who I will definitely keep in contact with
London, so v expensive at times.
An endless amount of bars, clubs, pubs, theatres - fantastic. There were barely any nights when I wasn't doing something after work.
We had charity events and other central intern days which I thoroughly enjoyed and made the experience a whole lot better
