The Role
My placement was a fantastic experience and I met some great people. There was a lot of responsibility given to me from the start and this definitely had a positive impact on the placement as a whole.
On the whole, I felt quite well-valued by my colleagues, particularly on audit assignments where the teams were relatively small.
There was always support available if required and this was made clear to us from the start.
As is to be expected in audit, there were particularly busy periods and some slower periods. This usually depended on whether I was working at a client site, which was fast-paced and challenging.
As the audit teams were relatively small, this gave me a fantastic insight into how a business works and also meant that I was responsible for multiple sections of the audit on every job. RSM Tenon encourages you to request to work on different areas in the future as well, which broadens your level fo responsibility even further.
Not only did I build my commercial awareness and knowledge of audit, I also developed a number of soft skills that will follow through to my final year at university.
The Company
As audit work is usually performed on the client site, there were periods where the office was fairly quiet, but this was to be expected. The general atmosphere in the office was always great.
The placement was well-established and this was clear throughout the placement.
RSM Tenon offered training in the majority of the software that we used, as well as team-building and regional training events.

The Culture
There was always an opportunity for the students to get together for a meal/drink/a few drinks.
The cost of living in Basingstoke is very high, but there are areas around which are quite well-priced and within commuting distance.
Basingstoke is not renowned for its insane nightlife, but Reading has a great bar scene and is only a 15 minute train journey away.
There was always some sort of event, sporting or social, to get involved with.
