The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Samsung Electronics. It has developed me as a person as well as giving me an invaluable insight into the business and how it operates effectively and efficiently on a global scale. I learnt skills that I will take with me and use in my studies and will be able to incorporate in future work.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues right from the first day. I was always able to ask for advice and help whenever required and I was also trusted by them to carry out my projects individually. If I needed support throughout the projects they were always there to help me out.
My manager and senior managers around me were always available and willing to give me support and guidance whenever required. I would regularly have meetings and catch ups with them to discuss how I am getting on as well as going over projects that I was currently completing. I was also assigned a senior mentor at the start of the year who was always there as someone external from the team to ask questions and give me extra support when needed.
Right from the start I was busy in my role. After the handover experience with the past intern, I had numerous jobs which I was left to pick up on. I then took charge of the Internship scheme which was ongoing throughout the year. Alongside this I also had other jobs within the team to complete on a daily basis. There was always work to do and even if I was short of work on a day there was always someone around the office who could do with the extra help.
From day one of my placement at Samsung I was thrown straight into the deep end. The opportunity gives you a 'real' experience in a global corporation and you will be considered a pivotal team member from the off. I was solely running the whole internship recruitment programme for the following year so I had a huge amount of responsibility on my shoulders. Alongside this I was in charge of various other areas so responsibility was huge. This was key in my development as a person and also within my role as it made me adapt to the corporate world instantly in order for me to have an impact on the business.
I have gained and developed invaluable skills throughout this internship at Samsung. I will be able to implement them not only into my studies, but also in any jobs that I work in in the future. I had training on areas that I have never been exposed to before so I am leaving the placement with a broader skills set as well as an enhanced set of skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was very vibrant most of the time in the office. Obviously at times it was quiet as people worked on important project. Most of the time though it was extremely chatty and open and you were able to discuss with the people next to you and opposite.
The internship programme at Samsung is relatively new so things are being learnt each and every year. This year it has developed massively and next year it will be even better and more advanced.
I was given a fantastic handover when I first joined and throughout the internship I was given on the job training. Whenever needed as long as I gave warning for time in advance, managers were able to invest their time in me and teach me areas I wanted to learn more about.

The future prospects are very appealing at Samsung. The way the company is developing and leading global markets there is huge potential for Samsung. New roles are always being created here so prospects are good for future employment.
The Culture
The social scene at Samsung was relatively good between all the interns. It didn't help with the fact that we were all spread out in terms of where we were living though. Interns that lived closer together saw each other more regularly outside of work. We had a few big intern night outs. In terms of within my team specifically we also had a few nights out as well as lunches and dinners together.
The social scene in Chertsey, Surrey where the European HQ is located isn't great. We tended to socialise in towns nearby such as Guilford and also London. This was a much more convenient location for everyone to meet and have a good time together.
As mentioned nightlife wasn't great in Chertsey. There are a few pubs that are nice for lunch however not suited for nightlife. This was found in nearby towns.
There was plenty of opportunity to get involved in external activities. Samsung has sports teams that they run which you can join in with as well as other activities.
