The Role
I enjoyed bits of it.
Everyone who worked there was very friendly and made me feel welcome.
I was given some guidance.
I was not busy at all after the first couple of weeks - there weren't many things for me to do.
A little responsibility of minor tasks, a bit more regarding the project that we were asked to carry out. I wasn't, however, under the impression that the project was of much importance to the branch team.
I learned a lot about retail banking and the workplace in general (as this was my first internship), which will be very useful in the future.
The Company
Upbeat and friendly in general.
Would have been better if they had made sure that there was enough to do in the branch. It was too long to just be shadowing and doing meet and greet and carrying out a small project, but not long enough to undertake any major tasks/projects, and not long enough to allow me to access the customer information, and therefore preventing me from being able to help with any of the customer-related activity in the branch.
The investment came in the form of organising this internship; when I was working there, I didn't really feel like they were investing anything in me.
Opportunities for further summer internships, and then graduate training schemes. Would like to go back, but not in retail banking.
The Culture
Yes, invited to drinks after work with other interns a few times.
Quite expensive - central London.
Great - central London.
The charity events (although work-related) were good.
