The Role
It was a really enjoyable experience in which I was able to spend time with a variety of teams within the tax department. Everyone was very friendly and the work was varied and interesting.
Everyone was great and went the extra mile to make me feel welcomed. The work I was given was directly related to clients so it felt like I was a valued member of the team.
I was given good support and felt like I could always ask a question.
There were some days when I didn't have loads to do but I was never just left to be bored. I had the opportunity to attend meetings as well as client work.
I feel I was given the right amount of responsibility. I was given real client work but nothing I felt was beyond my limitations.
Although the skills may not be relevant to my degree (history) the business skills and the people I met will definitely be useful in the future
The Company
The atmosphere was great, the work got done but there was always time for a chat.
The placement was well set up, I had an overall office mentor who organised my movement into different teams. Within each team I had a manager and a buddy, usually someone who had been at the company a couple of years.
I had 3 days training at the tax business school in London before I started and then other internal training sessions as I went along.

The Culture
There was a great social scene with colleagues. We often went out for lunch, after work drinks and during my placement there was a whole office 'battle of the departments' quiz.
Manchester, so cheapish living
Great nightlife. Numerous bars, clubs and restaurants in Manchester city centre and the suburbs.
As said previously there was the company quiz and lunches.
