The Role
Unfortunately, although I was keen to do my best with KPMG, I worked out very quickly that audit is not for me. This meant that although the rest of my internship was a challenge I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. Also, when applying for the internship I was not informed how much travelling I would be doing and this became frustrating.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful, this was something I particularly liked about the company and my internship - the quality of the people I worked with. It made a big difference.
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was a brilliant manager, he tried to change things to make them suit me as much as possible. The only thing we could have done was have a few progress meetings and then some of the issues we had to resolve might have been avoided however, he was very helpful and approachable.
It depended what client I was on, some I was rushed off my feet, others there was little to do. Overall it came out as a nice balance really.
I had responsibility for my own work and going to see the clients and contacts. I think it is hard for any company to provide an intern with too much independence and control, especially if they've never done anything similar to the job before.
The extra communication skills I have developed will be very useful for the future and in my degree. Some of the electronic techniques with PDF documents and excel will also be very useful I imagine.
The Company
Audit is a little bit dull, everyone was concentrating a lot but all were friendly and we did have some fun when we had a break.
They were prepared for my arrival, gave me lots of information about what I'd be doing and provided me with the necessary equipment. There were some miscommunications which happened before I'd started my placement but these did get resolved. The size of the company made me think I might get lost as a number in the system but this did not happen and especially the secretarial staff were amazing at keeping track and finding out anything I didn't know.
Everyone was very helpful and taught me as I went along. This started from the basics to some more complicated things. They always explained why I was doing something as well which was helpful so I could appreciate the reason for doing things.

Company Parties/Events
I am keen to go into the company but not in the area in which I've done my internship. I like KPMG, the staff and the company but I would want to apply for something in central services instead.
The Culture
There were lots of events being organised around me, I was invited to all I knew about and the company even offered I could join them for their summer party which took place after my vacation scheme had ended.
I lived at home so the travel was costly but the company helped by paying part of my expenses.
I didn't experience the nightlife, but through my choice, not due to KPMG.
Social activities and fundraising were the main opportunities which unfortunately i didn't have that much time to experience.
