The Role
The internship gives you a real sense of worth throughout your time because your work is being used to advise clients amongst other things, so you really feel valued. There are naturally days that are slower or less interesting than others but I would quite happily undergo another internship opportunity if it was going to be anything similar to this.
Colleagues definitely appreciated you hard work as in most cases you are simply lightening their work load.
All my incharges were very helpful and happy to answer questions relating to both work and life whilst working for KPMG. My mentor was very poor and unable to arrange any shadowing opportunities, despite offering to arrange this myself.
I was given a significant amount of autonomy over my own work providing I met all the necessary deadlines. There were times were I was struggling to find work to do when at client offices this meant that I could leave early on one day but the next day I might be given new work that might take me longer than the time alloted to it.
My work was being used at multiple levels of customer interaction. This did often involve work being reviewed first by senior employees. On a regular basis I was acting and interacting with clients at their offices whilst being the only KPMG employee onsite.
I spent a lot of time dealing with senior level employees at clients offices which taught me a lot about how to work well with individuals who have significantly more experience than you within the area that you are working. It has provided me with a good insight into the working world which has added to my career motivation.
The Company
Good, everyone was very friendly and perfectly happy to have a short chat or joke between work.
Once at my office, there was no structure.
I underwent a 2 day training course at the start which was good but not very useful for the work I was actually carrying out. The training course was more of an introductory to the company, for this purpose it worked very well.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
There graduate trainee program appears to be very competitive. Personally, I would like a working environment which is more fast paced.
The Culture
None that I experienced. The nature of the work is not condusive to this, because auditors spend a lot of time at clients offices. I was the only intern within my department.
There are a variety of places to live nearby which cover a wide range of price brackets.
There were no events to experience it. The Manchester nightlife is renowned and quite diverse.
Some were mentioned but they were quite infrequently.
