The Role
It was really interesting and insightful to learn about all the different roles that occur on a daily basis around the company
Everyone was really friendly and showed a genuine interest in wanting to make sure I felt welcome and that I knew to ask if I had any questions
Even when they were away on holiday they always ensured that I knew who to ask if I had any problems; they were really helpful well allowing me to manage my own time around the work that I was carrying out.
At the beginning I was quite quiet due to not learning anything about reinsurance at school or university. As a result I spent the first couple of weeks reading up and understanding some of the industry. However, as time progressed through the internship I was given more work as I understood more what was to be done, and also got to spend time in different areas within the company where I already had some basic knowledge, or where my skills could be better attributed.
I was given a fair amount of responsbility considering my lack of knowledge within the industry. In particular, this was the case with writing some of the reports and proof reading other work.
Whilst the skills I have developed will not help me towards my degree, they are highly valuable within the profession I am interested in going into. In addition, the general daily office work is something I can transfer easily to any business.
The Company
There was a lot of character within the office; work was always completed to high standard and made fun through the conversations and light atmosphere - it was a relaxed place to work with not too much pressure.
The internship was well organised; I got to rotate round many different sections to see how all the departments fit together.
I was able to undertake lots of training due to their being a few interns, and also due to the ongoing courses that are on offer about reinsurance and other sectors within the company.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
There is the potential opportunity to be taken onto the graduate scheme next September.
The Culture
We would often go out for a drink on Thursday's after work and also sometimes meet for drinks. Additionally, due to undertaking projects amongst the interns it meant that we met up once a week to carry out the task in preparation for presentations that we were to carry out in the penultimate week.
I was able to live at home during the internship, but the socialising was typical london prices. However, there were often happy hours and also regularly got brought from fellow colleagues.
There were plenty of places to experience!
We sometimes went and played tennis after work and carried out other social activities. We also got to go for some client lunches and experience the Lloyds market.
