The Role
It was a really good insight into the industry, I learnt a lot which was very satisfying
Great bunch of guys, really helpful and keen to give me advice about almost anything. Also they involved me in the day-to-day rountine which made me feel part of the team
my manager was very busy a lot of the time and so ahad little time to really support me. Although I did try to make efforts to get 1-to-1s organised but sometimes I felt they were rushed
The footfall at my branch was high and as I worked during holiday season there was staff shortages which kept me busy and engaged. If anything I was slightly too busy and possibly did not have time to complete my project to its fullest extent.
I was expected to deal with customers all on my own, however I thought it was a good balance as because I was not really shown how to use the computer systerm any mistakes I made wouldnt go too far and could be fixed.
There was so much about banking that I did not know that I was naturally going to pick up a lot, also I learnt how best to deal with customers (friendly or impatient) and that will certainly be something i take with me.
The Company
There was good banter in the group but nothing too crazy, the guys are happy to do their own thing sometimes and as its such a big office there are different friendship groups, but everyone does have a good laugh occasionally.
I thought it was well organised, the selection process was actually quite entertainig especially the assessment day and I was told almost immediately my result which i liked. The screening checks did get a bit tiresome but I understood the reasoning. Induction weekend was good fun and exactly what i was hoping for, and the induction handbook gave a good guide on what to do.
The HSBC internships are really linked and once you're on their programs they really want you to stay with them so their invest time and money into you which i was grateful for
Company Parties/Events
Absolutely, the chance of progression with HSBC is extremely high, much higher than any other internship i have ever heard of, I makes me feel motivated to impress so they want me to come back and work in a different area next time
The Culture
As we were in different branches I did not get a chance to really get to know my fellow interns, however events were arranged and they was really cool so i cannot complain.
I worked in L ondon so prices naturally were high but i wouldnt have had it any other way, London is where it's at in terms of banking, the customers that we had to deal with were very diverse which kpet me on my toes.
Its London! naturally the nightlife was fantastic had a great time out on the town, (all the prices were hefty) I couldnt complain as i was having so much fun!
there were some charities events which you could chose to lead, but unfortunately there were no sports teams to take part in which i missed, but you cannot be too picky
