The Role
It was a really enjoyable experience. The work was interesting, the people were terrific and the selection of tea was incredible.
I was involved with interesting and engaging work from the very beginning and felt like a proper member of the client teams every step of the way.
Starting the internship I knew very little and less about what the majority of the numbers involved in any calc meant, much less what to do with them. Luckily everybody in the office is ready to lend a hand and explain whatever you want whenever you are stuck or just interested in finding out what is going on.
The workload was perfectly balanced, giving enough time to complete each job without the looming threat of terrifying deadlines, with new work appearing whenever required.
I was responsible for managing my own time.
Over the 6 weeks I feel that I developed my communication and computation skills along with improving my confidence when talking to others.
The Company
Everyone was exceptionally welcoming. It was really not what I was expecting from a room full of actuaries.
No faults at all with how everything was run. Everything was sorted from the beginning, including travel and accommodation when visiting the other offices.
We were given a stripped down version of the training that the graduates receive in the first week, but
Subsidised Canteen

Will be finding out in a few weeks - fingers crossed!
The Culture
There were weekly events organised between various members of the office including 5-a-side football and cricket on various evenings.
Manchester - it's cheap up north.
Manchester is a lively city.
Work colleagues frequently organised events and made a point of trying to get the interns involved in some way.
