The Role
The work was varied and interesting, and I felt like I was making a real contribution to the projects I was working on. This kept me interested and stimulated throughout the course of the internship which definitely allowed me to enjoy it more. Everyone in the office was friendly and welcoming which meant that from the beginning I felt at comfortable in the office. I think the relaxed and friendly atmosphere within the office played a massive role in how much I enjoyed my time at TW.
My colleagues made very effort to make me feel at home. I was assigned a buddy when I arrrived who was there to help me whenever I had a problem. On my first day most of the office went to the local pub at lunch for a drink to welcome me to the office, which was really nice to get to meet everyone in a more relaxed environment. Every 2 weeks me and the other interns swapped desks so we got to sit in every area of the office and meet everyone which was great.
At the start of every day my manager would come and ask me about my workload, so they made sure I was always busy but never overwhelmed. Every week I had a catch up with my line manager to discuss how I felt the internship was going and to get any feedback on how I was doing. These were always informal so weren't intimidating but were great at allowing me to get as much from my internship as possible. My buddy was always on hand to help out as well.
Most days I was kept but there were days that were I was very quiet.
From day 1 I was given client work and had projects to work on which was great. Also throughout the course of my internship I worked on a project with other interns and so that gave me quite a bit of responsibilty. In the last few weeks I had to develop a project plan for a client task which was a great experience. It gave me a very real insight into project management which was fantastic.
They will be of little assistance in the final year of my degree but I have developed and learnt some really inportant skills and understanding that will stand me in great stead for any future career I pursue.
The Company
Everyone was very jolly throughout, even when they had loads of work on. Regular socials were also great.
Very well organised. Everything was planned out for me.
At my weekly catch ups I was always asked if there was anything I wanted to get involved in and the firm made every effort to make this happen, even if it meant giving up some of their own time. They also put on lots of training sessions which meant we were able to get lots out of our internships. We also had sessions with many of the senior staff, getting to pick their brains on the company and the job, which gave us a great insight into the firm.
Many of the people we worked with had come through the internship so fingers crossed.
The Culture
I got on really well with my fellow interns and we attended a couple of office socials.
I lived at home which was a bonus, and socialising was pretty good value.
Bristol isn't bad.
5-a-side on monday nights, and there was also a netball team.
