The Role
I worked at Aon Hewitt as an actuarial summer intern in the Pensions Department. Although, I found the work to be challenging at first, my colleagues were very helpful and I soon found myself taking on many tasks and responsibilities. The work included lots of mathematical calculations such as calculating transfer value requests and providing monthly factors. I also worked on a Corporate Social Responsibility project in which myself and 8 others worked together to support a local charity. We raised over £1500 through a Charity Raffle, a quiz and other events. This encouraged me to strengthen my relationship with my team and communicate with colleagues effectively. Aon are very supportive in helping you to become a qualified Actuary. Juniors get one day a week off to study for their exams. I would recommend applying for an internship at one of Aon's London offices as this is where many of the interns are based so it gives you a chance to work with others at the same level. An advantage of doing an internship is that you may get offered a graduate job at the end of your placement!
