The Role
The internship was very, very enjoyable. I was constantly given a variety of work to complete so you were never bored! It can be demanding at times, especially given the fact that the work you complete is actually useful and valuable, but this can be seen as a positive too.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They took my position as an intern seriously, giving me work comparable to that of a new starter. They really appreciated the work I was putting in as it helped them complete their targets and tasks more quickly.
If you asked a question or were unsure about something, then usually someone would be there to guide or advise. However, if management/supervisors were busy it could be difficult getting the help you wanted.
This changed week to week. If you were on a job where there was lots of work to be done, then you had a lot of tasks to complete and therefore you were kept on your toes! However, in certain weeks, a lot of the work had already been completed and therefore you had much less to get on with. However, the important thing was to stay positive and always ask if there is anything you could help with.
A lot! It's quite surprising given that you are only there on a temporary basis. However, the company has a lot of faith and expectation in you. As a result, you are expected to complete work to a high standard.
In the role, you complete a variety of tasks, communicate with a variety of clients and are working within a team. Thus, even if your future doesn't lead you on the path to finance, you develop a variety of transferable skills.
The Company
The atmosphere way excellent! Everyone was very friendly and it was very easy to get on with your colleagues. Even when things got a bit pressed and tense in the job everyone remained in good, positive spirits, which put me at ease.
The placement was organised, without being too rigid. Your supervisors would contact you well in advance to sort out logistics (transport, software installation etc.) for the job. Furthermore, if there was a particular area or sector you wanted to experience, the staff would try their best to be flexible and allow you to work in it during the placement.
We were given a two day induction course, which was a great way to meet new starters and get a feel for the company and its values. However, I feel that this was too short and that a slightly longer training program before you started would allow you to get more out of the internship as a whole.

The employment prospects are promising. If you perform well at the internship, you are given a partner interview, which is your chance to express the qualities and attributes required to get a graduate job with them
The Culture
We were in a busy city with a range of facilities available so there was plenty to get up to both in the day and in the evening. However, there were no social events planned for the new interns while I was there, which was a bit of a disappointment.
As a result of living in a big city, the cost for food, socialising etc. was high, especially for a student. However, you were given a daily lunch allowance on the job which reduced expenditure from being as high as it potentially could have been
The city I was working in was renowned for its nighlife, which was excellent! However, there were no formal night-outs planned by the office, which was a shame as I never really got to experience this side of things.
The company has a variety of sports teams (football, netball) to get involved in, if that's your sort of thing. Furthermore, the company is committed to CSR and therefore you can get involved in charitable events too.
