About You
I had a fantastic time at Simmons- the vac scheme was well-structured, we were given plenty of work to do and the social events were top quality!
Members of the Simmons team across all levels took the time to talk and explain things to me.
We were encouraged to ask our trainee host and supervisors questions and there were also allocated times we could book to speak to members of the graduate recruitment team.
Particularly as a non-law student, the scheme was designed to encourage many different types of skill including research and writing.
The Company
I think 3 weeks was the perfect amount of time to get a good flavour of the type of work we would be doing if we were to join the firm. I think there was also a very good balance between various talks and activities as well as department work, group projects and social events.
I was surprised at the relaxed (though obviously incredibly hard-working) vibe of the firm.
Particularly as we were given so many talks, it felt like the firm wanted us to know everything about what training at Simmons would be like, it felt like they were selling themselves to us rather than just a 3-week interview.
I do not think there would be a better way to find out what working at Simmons would be like than with a 3 week vac scheme.
The talk we had from one of the senior partners was particularly helpful for us to establish what the firm is doing, what their future plans are and how they differentiate themselves to their competitors.
It definitely removed any doubt I had that I wanted to be a solicitor.
Everything Else
we were paid £275/week
We were able to meet many trainees from various seats, but I think other than the department we were sat in it was difficult to speak to associates and partners.
I was very impressed by the quality of the social events- we were taken to a Michelin starred restaurant and got to climb up the 02!
There are different sports teams and charities that can be joined.
If my friend were interested in city law at a firm that has a more friendly vibe than magic circle firms then I would definitely recommend
