    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I have enjoyed this placement. I have learned many valuable skills and furthered my knowledge of the company and automotive industry as a whole, as well as making a number of new friends and contacts.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my placement I was trained to be able to carry out tests on vehicles. It took a few weeks to become fully competent carrying out said tests, however once trained my work was very much valued by my team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support and guidance was always available if needed. I never felt scared to ask for help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • To start with there wasn't a lot I could do however once I'd completed all training necessary I became much busier in the second half of my placement

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I spent half my time in an office and half my time in a electrical workshop. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed in general

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • More could be done to structure the undergrad scheme. There is no framework to go by as with the Graduate scheme. The amount of work, responsibility and overall enjoyment of your placement is solely at the hands of your nominated manager.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did not undertake any official training whilst on placement however did spend a number of hours being taught testing processes and procedures by team mates.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme is very appealing as it offers a high salary £29k per annum (I believe) and gives graduates the opportunity to see many different business areas through the arrangement of placements throughout the 2 year scheme. These may be as short as 2weeks or as long as 3 months.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a strong social scene at the company. JLR take on approximately 50 undergrads (summer and year long placements combined) and hundreds of graduates each year. Thus, there are many young faces in the company

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in between the two JLR bases of Gaydon and Whitley (Coventry) in Leamington Spa. I managed to find suitable accommodation for a good price, using spareroom.co.uk.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in leamington is average to good. Much better during term time when the Warwick students are back in the area. There are many bars and a few small clubs. A venture to Coventry is worth it for a night out however the city is a fair bit 'rougher'.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a number of clubs and societies at the company however being a relatively active person involved in sport and socialising I didn't participate in any company outside activities
