The Role
The work itself provided good days when I was really interested, and also bad days when I felt I had worked all day to achieve very little.
The people I worked with were all really welcoming and willing to help out.
As I was new to the industry I had no previous experience or knowledge about actuarial work and concepts so required a lot of guidance which was given the majority of the time.
Some days were busy and some were very quiet.
The work I was doing was always work which would have been done by another employee had I not been there. A few were just small tasks which would take them five minutes, but were nonetheless necessary.
I learned a lot about the actuarial community as well as an introduction to the skills and knowledge that an actuary requires.
The Company
When work needed to be done people got down to it and didn't have much time for chat, but at quieter times everyone got along really well and were really friendly with each other.
A few times I was left wondering what I should do next or who I should ask, but the overall placement was organised really well and I was in touch with HR and the stream head regularly.
I was able to participate in online courses and "lunchtime learning" sessions which gave mixed levels of engagement and use. There are training sessions open to general staff members which I could also attend.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I have not yet heard about a job offer, but I have been given positive feedback and have been told that in general the company are quite generous with job offers given that the application process is quite intense.
The Culture
All the interns have lunch together and go out in the evening.
The festival puts prices quite high, but compared to where other financial institutions are based (e.g. London) the prices are quite competitive.
Again, the festival makes things a lot more fun!
I went out with colleagues, other interns and friends to have dinner and see the festival.
