Commercial Valuation Review

The work I became involved in was interesting and varied, and the company was very welcoming and supportive throughout the internship. I really feel to have benefited from my time with the company, having learnt a great deal about the sector of the industry I was working in, while also building valuable professional and business skills.

I was given a fair amount of responsibility within my team, carrying out useful and often important jobs for my buddy and supervisor, as well as for other individuals within the department. I had the ability to get on with tasks with little supervision, giving the impression that the team were confident in my abilities. For these reasons, I did feel valued by my colleagues.

My buddy was extremely helpful on a daily basis; giving me support for tasks while also going through some of the theory behind the work and getting me really involved in jobs. Likewise my supervisor was very helpful, and more than willing to take time out of his day to show me software packages used by the department or discuss various aspects of the work.

Very busy! I believe that the experience is more enriching however when you have more rather than less to do, but it did mean that I was constantly juggling lots of tasks and prioritising work for different colleagues. At times this was a bit stressful!

At the level of an intern you cannot expect to be given any significant responsibility during a placement, as you do not have the experience or required qualifications to do so. However, it is evident that the company gave us as much responsibility as they realistically could; allowing us to undertake real work which was useful for the team, often with little supervision. For these reasons I would say that we were given a reasonable level of responsibility.

I feel that I have benefited a great deal from the skills, knowledge, experience and training I received as part of the internship, whether through organised activities by the company or through my own desire to learn as much as possible during my time there.

In my department the individuals were relatively quiet and hard working, and there wasn't the liveliness that you could find in other areas of the firm (although note that this was a function of the personality of individuals who took to the professional side of the business as opposed to the agency side).

The internship was well organised, with a timetable of activities for us to participate in during our time with the company. However, compared to other companies I undertook internships with, there were noticeably fewer internship activities at Cushmans, and more of an onus on assessing our individual performance within our departments for the potential job offer which would result afterwards.

There was some investment through organised activities by the company, but beyond that the level of training and / or personal development depended on your initiative as an individual and the level of investment in you by your team. As already mentioned, I was given significant support and training by my team.

A fantastic company to work for, we are awaiting to find out whether we have a position on their graduate scheme for when we complete our university education.

There were some organised drinks between interns, but perhaps as a result of being assessed during the internship for a position on the graduate scheme, there was little enthusiasm from other interns to socialise to a great extent during the internship.

The internship took place in central London, so evidently the cost of living and socialising compared to the rest of the country is very expensive!

I didn't get the opportunity to experience much of the nightlife during the internship, but as a result of the internship being in central London the nightlife in this area is understandable some of the best in the country.

Not really. A few drinks evenings were organised, and we were given the opportunity to take part in sports matches that the company takes part in, but this was hardly extensive.
