    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, not only did I get an in depth knowledge of the department I was working in, I also got an overview of other departments.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were very helpful, they understood that my industry experience was very limited and took the time to explain things well to me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were very supportive and helpful throughout my time with Citi. They organised the shadowing of other departments so that I got a very worthwhile experience.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was relatively busy during the day. However, my workload would fluctuate throughout the month as different deals would need to be entered at different times. Although, during less busy times I would access the training courses and complete them so I was always doing something.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot more responsibilty than I imagined I would have got. This enabled me to get a real insight into the work done by the financial services sector. Some of the deals I input had financial penalties associated with them if they were input incorrectly, so it was very encouraging to think that my managers trusted me with these products.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I have honed in on skills such as the ability to prioritize and organisational skills over the duration of my placement. These skills will be invaluable not only for my final years in college but also for any career position I take on in the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Before I started I imagined that there would be a very tense atmosphere in the office, however, this was very untrue. There was a very friendly atmoshpere and I was made very welcome when I first started. People were always willing to help when I encountered any challenges.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought the placement was really well organised. Throughout the Summer, various presentations were put on for the interns and we had the opportunity to meet with some of the managing directors.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think I was trained well, and also saw an overview of other departments which allowed me to see the process as a whole. It was also necessary to complete some online training which helped to gain a greater understanding of the work done in the industry.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the future employment prospects are very strong with Citi. The company is present in over one hundred and sixty countries globally so it is a huge organisation. There is also great flexibility within different departments, so you can gain experience in a wide variety of areas.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there were approximately 25 other interns who started in around the same time as myself. There was a great sense of camraderie among the interns and we got to know one another through various activities which were organised on our behalf.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was fortunate enough to have been able to commute from home into work on a daily basis. The area is well serviced by trains and buses so it is easily accessible from Dublin and surrounding areas. Due to its proximity to the city centre, it is possible to find cheap places to socialise.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Citi is only a short walk from the heart of Dublin's city centre. The financial services sector where Citi is actually located has several wine bars, however, these were aimed at a slightly older crowd. The city centre itself has many nightclubs and bars which cater for all different tastes so is ideal for intern nights out.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were many opportunities to get involved in outside activities. There are a number of different sports clubs, and also networking groups. Citi also prides itself on it's 'Global Community Day' which is an opportunity to do some volunteering.
