The Role
A highly competitive and productive organization that centres on relevance. This is a great place to work if you want to go somewhere that accomodates driven and self-developing people. Citi has little patience for those who makes no effort to improve and hence reserves only the most driven of individuals. Talented and co-operative personnel are everywhere, the potential for learning is hugely impressive especially if one pushes his or herself to learn and participate.
The comraderie is very much department focused. Within each department is a very friendly atmosphere with usually at least one unscheduled social night out every month and plenty of laughs and causal teamwork during work hours.
Support in Citi is better than that you would get in most major organizations. However, it should be said that this is only extended to the level of the manager above you. Your manager's manager or any higher level colleagues will have little encouragemet or support for you unless you push your initiative and chase them down proactively.
My particular department in Business Transformations had a very sporadic schedule and workload. Work may be handed down on an unexpected basis and there would be no standard way of approaching this task, certainly not a position for those who fear innovation or thinking individually. I found the work rewarding however the variable deadlines sometimes proves to be quite a nuisance, thus being unpredictable and causing inbalance.
It must be said that Citi gives their interns unprecedented responsibility during their internships. Surprisingly, interns were allowed to use critical systems with great responsibility in their own time without supervision after sufficient training periods. There was a very comfortable pace during training with your manager constantly asking you whether you are comfortable with what you've learnt or not. They seem to want to make sure you understand your work and feel comfortable with it before giving you unexpected amounts of responsibility, and with good reason! Overall, this aspect of the placement really surprised me in a positive way.
Personally I entered Citi with a firm list of goals to achieve and things to learn. Not only were these goals met but even surpassed. Citi is an amazing place for development if candidates have the drive to seek development on their own accord. Opportunities are everywhere and people are open to new ideas and services if you push yourself and make yourself open and available for these opportunities. Citi will not push you to take these opportunities however, anyoen considering taking a palcement in Citi is highly advised to have a proactive approach to improvement and self-learning. Skills learned in Citi is permanent and transferable, but rather limited if candidates do not push themselves. Once candidates push themselves to do more, the opportunities is massive.
The Company
Citi is a competitive and busy place. Hence there will not always be time to engage in casual talk all the time. But it is surprising how well people are connected here despite this lack of casual time to communciate casually. The general atmosphere is very much in tune with the typical office except that it has a very encouraging style to it and a very receptive colleague base who will help you anytime if you really need it.
The work placement was highly organized and very much according to the introduction given during the interview process and the induction day. Candidates may even acquire more than they expected if they push themselves to participate in various activities.
The company invested a huge amount into each candidate if this is calculated in financial terms. One of the highest intern salaries in conjunction with the same benefits as a full-time employee and all the extra HR requirements placed makes this a very invested placement by the company.

I would think Citi has a very high recruitment rate. Many people going in and out.
The Culture
It was definitely worth an experience, everyone is very encouraging when it comes to social activities.
It really doesn't cost that much, perhaps less than 20 euros, especially since you are getting paid a very generous wage.
Being in the financial district of the city this palce has few nightlife scenes. However, it is very popular place to be after dark and there are a few popualr gathering palces if options runs short.
There are opportunities, although Citi's busy schedule makes this difficult to get into. Still, it is far from impossible and anyone determined enough can very well get even organizational backing to take part in activities outside work.
