The Role
The work was very interesting and I learnt a lot. Everyone at Towers Watson was lovely making it a great experience to work here!
I was given important work including a lot of client work (more than I would have expected). My colleagues always valued my opinions.
Everyone within the company was very approachable and I always felt like I could ask anyone for help if I was unsure with what to do. Within the 6 week internship I had 3 one-to-one meetings with my line manager to ensure that I was enjoying the internship and getting the right amount of work.
Throughout the internship I was given additional work including preparing for a presentation, completing exercises which will help with the first few actuary exams and completing a group project.
All work I was given I was responsible for. I worked on both client and non-client work.
Throughout the internship I learnt what it was like to work in an office and the level of work that I would participate in if I was to work at Towers Watson. I participated in a series of training, all were very useful and gave me a good insight into what working as an actuary would be like.
The Company
Although everyone worked hard everyone was always very happy and seemed as though they enjoyed their time at work.
Our time was planned very well. There was 3 introductory days planned by HR throughout the internship and plenty of training.
We were given lots of training and help throughout the internship to help our personal development.

They seem to hire about 1/2 to 2/3rds of interns in the Reigate office for retirement (this is not a set figure however I am just basing this on the last few years).
The Culture
Within the 6 weeks internship I attended a summer boat party, a rounders tournament, a tennis social, qualifying drinks, a pub quiz and a wine tasting social organised by Towers Watson*. Also most Fridays I would go with other colleagues to the local pub for a couple of drinks. I had a great time with the other interns throughout the internship. We went out for meals, went to a show in London and played tennis. The wine tasting and the pub quiz were organised by the interns on behalf of Towers Watson.
Reigate is fairly expensive but no more than London.
Although there is only one club in Reigate there are plenty of pubs and everyone still manages to have a great time in a night out! (Note that if you do like a busier club scene then Reigate is only a 30-40min train from central London.)
Lots and lots of opportunities. All of them are detailed in the question 'Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues'
