The Role
I really enjoyed the work I was given, getting into a working routine and building a good work ethic which I will take with me into my final year of University. It was great to feel that your work contributed to the department.
I felt valued by colleagues (especially once I became more independent in my role) as students are responsible for doing a certain amount of the routine work.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my supervisor who trained me in the lab individually. My supervisors (and other staff) were always willing to help me and answer questions although sometimes it could be difficult to catch up with them as they all had busy schedules. However, we had regular meetings to discuss my work.
My scheduled varied. Sometimes it could be very busy, especially when carrying out my project but most of the time my schedule was manageable. I always had something to be doing and enjoyed being busy.
Once fully trained, I became responsible for running my routine assays but we could always ask for help when needed. We were expected to flag up any problems ourselves and discuss our work at meetings and manage our own time effectively.
As I worked in the lab on a daily basis, I developed lab skills which I will use in my final year project at University and in my future career. My confidence has increased as well as communication and time management skills.
The Company

Stevenage not too expensive. London more expensive for some things.
Some nice pubs/bars
Yes, most students were good at organising things to do after work or at weekends.
