The Role
My placement with Atkins was highly enjoyable
There was a very large number of young graduate employees at Atkins who were constantly very friendly and helpful to me both in the office and outside.
The majority of the time the support was of a very high standard, but occasionaly had to try hard to get some help when the staff were busy or away.
This was one of the best things about my placement, since I was kept busy at nearly all times by doing a large variance of tasks.
In terms of responsibilty the tasks that I was given to were not at the high end of the spectrum, But that was as expected since I am only a summer placement student. The range of tasks varied from writing reports for clients to doing some network administration work.
The range of skills learnt in the office environment are really skills for life that I wouldn't be able to adopt back at university. These include the communication and formal report style of writing for colleagues and clients.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was a very relaxed affair. This meant that people were able to come and leave when they wanted and chatting was also sen to be acceptable.
The work started off very well as there had been a plan of tasks set out for me to do, but after these tasks had been completed when it came to the last few weeks it became quite difficult to have any real tasks except tidying up some excel pages and scanning documents.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Highly appealing for future jobs since I highly enjoyed my placement and Atkins is greatly expanding at the moment and keen to employ lots more new graduates.
The Culture
Yes the social scene was of a very high level. This was organised by the Atkins graduate representatives who organised various nights out and sporting events for all the interns and graduates.
I was able to live from home since my office was only a short walk away. The general costs on the social front were of an average level and not too pricy.
The Atkins office was situated in the centre of the city so was highly accessable for any of the after work nightlife. There was also a big selection of bars and clubs to choosefrom outside of the office scene.
Yes, there was quite a large number of clubs set up by Atkins such as touch rugby, football etc
