The Role
A great place with wonderful intelligent people!
My team were very interested in me and my projects. Everyone is friendly and enjoyed working with me.
I caught up with my manager more than once a week and supported by colleagues who offered their help constantly. GSK are fantastic at providing feedback at each stage of the journey and value personal development almost to the point of obsession!
Due to the interdependencies in working, some days could be slow when waiting for other people to deliver items. The same applies in the other direction with busy-ness!
Nearly every intern is given a real project (that would be carried out by full-time member of staff otherwise) which impacts on thousands of patients or healthcare professionals and may drive profits. Despite the high level of collaborative working, you are still responsible for your project(s).
In terms of business acumen, I gained an insight into what marketing is like in one of the most regulated industries. I particularly developed my own confidence and skills in building relationships and managing stakeholders. They also provided us with a day-long presenation skills workshop to prepare us for our Sponsor Review Presentation, which was particularly transferable.
The Company
I was in the most lively department of the office and everyone was excited about a new development in my brand.
All key milestones were scheduled in advance.
As before, the amount of feedback on personal development was amazing. Training outside of learning on the job included e-learning modules and training days. One personality assessment tool they used to help us know ourselves cost them over £300 per person.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Very appealing. However they only take on around 2 out of 6 interns for the grad scheme.
The Culture
The social scene amongst the younger ones was good, but at lunch time the interns mostly stuck together.
I rented a room in Hayes which was relatively cheap as it was very far from Central London.
The office is located in a business park in the village of West Drayton.
Some of the men play cricket. We were going to participate in a charity event but it was cancelled due to lack of subscribers to the team. I went for a run with a colleague once.
