The Role
After a slightly slow start the placement was extremely enjoyable. Doing tough work with real clients. Set objectives that were both long term and short term keeping me with stuff to do. Social side excellent with so many interns.
Excellent feedback from line manager, his manager and the managing director of the department. Always saying that I was helpful to them.
Good amount of guidance without too much guidance! Was allowed to make some decisions on my own but received support whenever asked for.
Plenty busy enough, but not to the extent of being overworked. Long term objectives meant that there was always something to do.
Lots of responsibility. I was the key contact for 'miscellaneous UK' customers. Involved being solely responsible for customers such as BMI, BA and Virgin Atlantic
Irrelevant to my degree, but degree is a not a vocational subject. Beyond my degree the technical training received and management skills learnt will be extremely useful.
The Company
Quiet and business like office, but not exactly fun all the time. However, there was a group of younger people who were fun to be with.
Extremely well organised. Series of reviews and an end of placement presentation and meeting with Human Resources.
Well. Plenty of training in the computer programmes used by the team and a couple of days training on the basics of Rolls Royce. Also included a logistics open day with CEVA.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very. Well paid and well organised graduate scheme. Have accepted a job with them, looking forward to starting in September 2010
The Culture
Very good. Everyone lived together in university halls. Regular nights out, 5 a side football team, meals out, regular basketball games.
Very cheap. Subsidised accomodation and Derby in general is very cheap when compared to the South
Fine. Like any provincial town. Plenty of bars and a few clubs. Enough people to make sure that there were always people ready to go out.
Not that many - but was only limited time in the placement (8 weeks). Played one game of football against another firm!
