The Role
At times it was really good, with some interesting projects and being involved completely. However at other times where there was less work around. I could have nothing to do. Or be working printing, filing, organising.
A very good team. Some in particular tried to include me in most if not all of the work they were doing. Made some good friendships.
Most of the time it was brilliant. Able to ask any questions. And given good instructions. On few occasions there were times where more guidance was needed. Or when people you needed we're on leave.
On average about the middle. Lots of days had a good balance. Lots of days I had very little. I was never too busy but I enjoy being busy and working quickly
I was given complete responsibly of work I was given. However on many occasions that work was not particularly important. But this is understandable as I do not have the skills of a graduate engineer
Good insight into the civil engineering rail industry. Not many useful specific technical skills. But good development of interpersonal skills. And gaining an overview of another aspect of the industry.
The Company
Very good team and atmosphere. A good joke could always be found. Making fun of the office facilities compared to other offices in the company.
HR were good. Overal organised very well. However sometimes lack of work seemed to beg the question of could things have been organised better
Not a large amount but that is because it wasn't needed. I was given training in the computer program's and for individual tasks by a mentor. Also there was cpd run as a group which was good.
I have looked into working again next summer and response seems positive. Hopefully within a sponsorship scheme.
The Culture
Became good friends with the other placement student and the year placement student. It was a smaller office so not expecting large numbers of students.
Cheap area in town. And near to my home. So no need for rent. Good bus service for work.
N/a.
Not particularly but was only here for a short time. There are a number of future events however.
