The Role
Enjoyable experience. People were keen to involve me in their projects and day-to-day work.
Some people were more comfortable giving me more responsibility than others - though that is likely everywhere, you just have to be proactive in doing the work people ask of you and asking for more work from the right people.
I was assigned a manager and buddy who were both happy to answer any questions I had. Outside of this most people in the team were happy to answer any questions I had or help with anything I wasn't sure on.
The first week or so was fairly quiet, however it soon picked up. I felt I had the right balance and could have easily asked people for more work had I wanted more yet I didn't have so much I ever had to turn work down from somebody.
It really depended on the person in question - some were content on just getting me just to check numbers whilst others were keen to involve me with writing reports and documents as well as attending meetings.
My excel skills have vastly improved! As well as this I feel a lot more motivated for my final year at university.
The Company
Atmostphere in my department was very good, it felt quite relaxed with quite a bit of banter but at the same time people knew when work had to be done. There were regular socials arranged by asset managers as well as team socials and as an intern we could attend just like any one else in the team. There are also drinks everytime someone passes their exams.
Once the initial IT/computer problems were sorted out the internship has been quite well organised.
We were allowed to go to all of the training sessions that are set up for the graduates. Aon seems to invest a lot in the graduate scheme including offering a lot of study days and offering to sponsor you through a masters at Imperial if you should to go down the actuarial route.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Find out next week! Speaking to the graduates they seem to imply a lot of interns are offered jobs.
The Culture
Interns tend to go out for lunch together on friday as well as regular drinks but its normally the same few that turn up.
It's London so bound to be expensive but as an intern you aren't usually expected to buy your own drinks on a team social!
Again, its London so there is a lot to do.
There is a cricket team as well as a 5-a-side football team. As well as this a lot of people in my team seem to be quite into their sport.
