    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight day. The speakers were very kind and helpful and answered all the questions in a kind and friendly manner. The only reason i didn't rate it top marks however was simply because it's such a huge firm and the building was a bit intimidating at first glance and the general layout as well. But this is nothing wrong with the firm at all, it's just simply the way i felt on the day.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The speakers and presenters were all very warm and respected the opinion of everyone in the room. They treated us as equals, even when some of us (like me) were still school children, and they were working for one of the biggest accountancy firms in Europe. This gave me a very good impression of the firm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • They answered all the questions i wanted answering and they had powerpoints and presentations that went into great detail about the job which was very useful.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • One of the bits of the presentation was guidance on interview technique. A few months after this insight day, i had a job interview and i got the job. the interviewers said they were very impressed with my interviewing technique so the skills that BDO gave me has already assisted me in gaining a stable future for myself.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was well planned out and well organised. I wouldn't have changed a thing about it. i was very impressed the the professionality of the insight day, even though most of the people there were school leavers and recent graduates who weren't really used to such professional environments.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was very pleasant, everyone there was really friendly; both the staff and the other people at the insight day, and the group work and lunch (which was very tasty) gave us the opportunity to meet the other people which made it more relaxed.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave us huge amounts of information, perhaps even more than i was expecting, which was very useful, and i now know a huge amount about the firm, it's training programmes and general tips and hints with things like interviews and writing CV's and personal statements.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It told us in great detail what it would be like to work for BDO and other accountancy firms. It even gave comparisons of the jobs in different scales of accountancy firms (i.e. bigger and smaller firms). They told us what to expect, and they got two school leavers who had joined only a year ago to tell us about the job and answer any questions we had which was very useful indeed.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It told us quite a lot about the company culture. They told us about how the company operates in a profession manner and everything like that. It wasn't hugely detailed though, although this perhaps wasn't really the main focus of the day anyway, and the information that was provided to me was very useful.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • After the insight day, i feel really interested in accountancy as a future propect. I have currently got a job in a pension firm, which will use largely the same kind of skills to accountancy, and maybe in the future, i can take an ATT course and go into an accountancy firm, or maybe become and Independent Financial Adviser. Either way, it helped me decide that my future career path would be in the financial industry, and the content of the day was very valuable.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The insight day was free, i don't believe there were any expenses that could have been reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was a very good lunch for an hour in the middle of the day where we could speak to the employees that had presented to us about the firm which was nice and useful.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • It was only an insight day, so this is N/A.

    0/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • They told us about firm outings and the various activities you can do out of work in Bristol.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • The insight day was extremely useful and i would definitely recommend it. Not only did it teach me a lot about BDO as a firm, but it told me a lot about the working life and how to succeed in it which was such valuable experience.
