About You
It was a great experience and they put us up at a nice service apartment in Manchester, 10 minutes walk away from the office. It gave me a really good insight to what M&IB Operations did and it allowed me to have a clear idea of what daily operations were like at the different desks in detail.
You could tell that they were speaking to you with hopes of eventually hiring you on their graduate scheme. They spoke to us with real conviction and introduced the RBS culture to us.
Work shadowing was conducted. A buddy and I were attached to an analyst on the Grad programme and had to learn what he did and eventually give a presentation to the analyst and his desk manager to show our understanding and what we learnt over the day.
It will better equip me for further job opportunities with the skills taught as well as the experience picked up.
The Company
Gave a clear timetable at the start of the whole insight and was adhered to accordingly.
It could get a bit dry trying to learn all the technical terms but it was well interspersed with light hearted moments.
The analysts and managers took their time off to speak to us and tell us about their jobs. The ones we were attached to were committed in educating us about their role. Some meals were provided, as well as a networking session on one of the evenings. Good accommodation as well.
Job scopes there weren't that broad, but rather, jobs there were tedious. As such, the analysts we were attached to had the time to go through in detail what their daily routines were like and went through step by step on what they had to do.
Company culture was evident. They were a fun-loving crowd but at the same time, serious and committed to their duties. They were helpful and always willing to lend a helping hand as well as answer our questions.
As the job shadowing was pretty in-depth it gave me a very clear idea as to whether this was a career path I would like to embark on.
Everything Else
Train tickets and accommodation was all paid-for.
It was quite an important focus for RBS as a whole and they made sure there were a good number of opportunities.
There was a networking session at a watering hole one of the nights as well as some of the meals were organized in such a way that senior management would come join us and have a chat with us as well as have informal interviews with us.
They were involved in many community activities as well as having get-togethers.
Well organized and beneficial for all. While it be back-office, it does give a good insight as to how RBS works behind the scenes.
