The Role
I really enjoyed everything about the placement. Having never done anlything with pharma before I was a bit dubious about how interested I would be in the products that I would be dealing with, however it surprised me how interested I was; and this has definately meant that I've had a great time and I have enjoyed the placement far more than I thought I would!
Everyone was genuinely lovely, and was willing to spend time going over things with you
My manager was always willing to help and supported me through decisions. Whilst we had weekly meetings, she was always about if I needed to talk thought anything
Given a real project there was a sense of responsibility to get it finished, and thoughout the intership I ended up picking up extra things to do so I never sat around doing nothing. However there was never pressure to stay late, and generally by 4.30 the office started to empty. There is a real emphasis on work/life
I was given my own project that I owned for the whole placement. It was great to be able to own something and at the end of it say that it was me that actually did it!
The placement provided far more than an introduction to marketing and sales, but also was a crash course in management and business in general.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally friendly and more informal than I thought it would be. Having lots of places to meet away from desks meant that if you wanted to have a more informal meeting on a sofa you can do that
A really good introduction, everyone was aware of the set up and way how the internship would run. Having a 'buddy' who was a current grad meant that if you had any questions or quieries you could just ask them!
There were opportunities to do things outside of the placement if you were interested. Personal development was emphasised and encouraged
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
GSK seem a great company to work for
The Culture
A summer ball was a great way to start the internship!
I commuted from home, however being near london the cost of living is quite expensive
The office is based just outside of london, near Heathrow, people tended to go into central for nightlife
Yes, there were opporunities if you wanted to take them, however they were never forced on you
