The Role
The work was interesting and varied, I spent a week out on site, my colleagues were very friendly.
They were very friendly and pleasant, although the office was quite quiet.
Support was there whenever I asked for it.
I found that if I worked slowly I had enough work and wouldn't get bored. Working faster sometimes led to a gap in the work so I paced it and it went well. I never felt rushed.
During my week on site I was supervising a ground investigation involving trial and hand pit digging. The locations and sizes of the pits were up to me to determine.
This was the first time I have taken on a supervisory role and I found it a learning curve but invaluable. The work I was doing was very relevant to my degree, as I worked in the Ground Engineering department and am taking several geotechnical modules in my degree. Some of the work related to last year's modules and some I know will be relevant for next year.
The Company
Pleasant but very quiet. Could use a radio.
Everything was set up and ready the day I arrived.
There were numerous training modules available on the intranet
Hoping to apply for a graduate scheme next year and have been told that they prefer to employ people they already know.
The Culture
Not really. We went out for lunch once but that was it (the GE department in Cardiff is only five people)
Standard Cardiff prices
Cardiff has excellent nightlife
There were a few activities arranged in other departments.
