The Role
Really good fun! Both interns and full-time colleagues were very open and helpful, work is challenging and you're given an exciting amount of responsibility. Real chance to learn how the corporation works on a broad level and connect with very senior stakeholders.
Great team spirit, fun atmosphere and inter-team bowling, football, nights out etc.
Probably the weakest aspect of the internship. HR are very proactive and supportive however line managers differ from person to person. Mine dealt with me via a more 'hands off' approach but did still genuinely care about my development. That management style actually suits me as it gives you room to develop projects completely as you would like to and puts a high expectation on you to deliver.
Generally very busy. At times felt like a could have been busier but admin/ emails actually takes up more time than you think. Time management wa mainly left up to us as projects are ongoing and you need to juggle several at a time and meet deadlines.
Great level of responsibility on 'real' projects where opinions from a fresh perspective are valued.
Immeasurably useful for getting you more in tune with how big business works, great for practical skills like excel and PowerPoint, even better for soft skills such as interaction with senior management.
The Company
Brilliant team and great fun!
Very well organised, if anything there was almost too much set up for us to get involved with.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
I was part on the FLDP (Future Leaders Development Programme) internship and about 85% of interns are offered graduate rolls.
The Culture
Canary Wharf so quite expensive but good fun and easy to take a tube to somewhere cheaper! Lots of corporate (free) events too.
Bars etc. very good, usually went to someone's flat together somewhere else to pre-drink and go out.
Sport/ bonding opportunities and anything you could come up with yourself would be considered.
