About You
I thoroughly enjoyed it more than other placements.
Everyone really made an effort to include you in both work and social events. In addition, they genuinely appreciated the work you did for them as opposed to superficially setting up tasks.
There was always a graduate recruitment team member who was an e-mail away. The trainees were always available for advice and were more than willing to help with anything.
I think the programme was more of an insight into the firm itself and for them to asses me than an actual development of my skills. This was because it was only a three week placement. However, you did see what skills are necessary to do the job well and see which ones you already had and which ones you'll need to work on.
The Company
Everything was organsied with a timetable when we arrived on the first day. There were no changes to this plan which I have experienced before which leads to confusion. All the social events were well organised and ran to plan. Despite tight timetabling, there seemed to be little stress put on if you had to miss/be late to any event and consequently that meant no-one ever was late.
All events were great fun and kept you busy. I wouldn't say "the fun never stopped" because there were times were you were at your desk and didn't have a lot to do but that's only to be expected.
Considering we were only there for three weeks, we recieved a large amount of training.
It's hard to get a completely full impression of what it would be like because you simply don't have the skills nor the time (due to events) to get fully involved with work. However, it still gave me a great insight and made it feel much more real.
The firm professed a "friendly" attitude on every advertising material and it's hard to gage how true that is from the outside. Coming into the firm showed me how true that statement really was, and the answer was very true!
It can never be a completely conlcusive decision by one internship but it has helped me to make the decision enormously as well as helped to make it a reality by giving us an interview for a training contract afterwards.
Everything Else
i was paid enough to cover expenses plus extra.
I attended numerous social events.
They were really great events ranging from lunches with senior partners to bowling and karaeoke with the trainees. It showed you all the different sides of the firm.
I wasn't really aware of the full range of opportunities but I was aware that there are some.
It was my most enjoyable internship.
