About You
The insight was ok, it gave me a good opportunity to meet trainees, associates and partners whilst also giving me the opportunity to learn about commercial law and partake in some negotiation exercises.
It was only an open day so you were reasonably valued but not nearly as in a potential vacation scheme student as you're not an asset to the firm yet.
The whole day was guided as in one session after another, although the support for general vacation schemes/training contracts was insufficient and did not answer everything about how to get on one of these schemes.
I probably wont use the skills much in my degree studies as it was only a day to learn more about the firm and as such you were either talked to about DLA piper or talking to people.
The Company
The day was well structured with the events running very well, whilst also allowing small breaks to gt refreshments and have some lunch.
Some of the talks went on a bit too long but generally the insight was very good and a very good insight into commercial law and DLA piper.
They did not invest much, only the associate/partner time to talk to you, however the entire event was held in the office so not too much investment.
It gave a small look in to a full time role with the company although you have to experience it first hand to get the best idea and thats only possible on a vacation scheme.
It was helpful to meet the trainees/associates/partners to get a real feel for the culture of the company where you can see the type of people who work for the company.
It was reasonable to confirm that commercial law is the career I want to go into, however I do not know about DLA piper as I would need to experience more about them before deciding.
Everything Else
Reimbursed up to £40 expenses.
We had lunch where we met a wide variety of people from the firm and could have a chat with them about the firm and law, however generally it was limited to the people who were talking to you throughout the day.
As it was only a day it was limited to lunch and so while plain there, on vacation schemes they tend to be much better.
The trainees gave us a good explanation of what you can get involved in outside of work, such as sports, theatre, dinners etc.
It is a good opportunity to learn more about commercial law, however other firms also do this kind of day and they tend to be more enjoyable, so it is worth looking around.
